Chicken Coop

Tiny Homes for Chickens (Chicken Coops)

Having raised our own chickens for years, they’ve become part of our family. And like any animal, they require proper care, attention, and the right environment—something that can quickly become overwhelming without the right tools and setup.

Our chicken coops are designed from real-world experience. Each one features thoughtful layouts, secure construction, easy-to-clean areas, and practical amenities that make caring for your flock simpler and more enjoyable. We’re not just builders—we’re passionate about coop design, taking pride in creating structures that are both functional and beautiful.

Wherever possible, we design our coops to aesthetically complement existing buildings and blend naturally into their surroundings. Once delivered, your coop is essentially move-in ready for your flock. We do recommend some basic preparation beforehand, such as ensuring a flat, level foundation.

Our delivery team will also walk you through additional steps you can take to further enhance predator protection—helping ensure your chickens are safe, comfortable, and right at home from day one.

Your Journey to Fresh, Homegrown Eggs Starts Now

Raising chickens is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding parts of minimalist living—and the right coop makes all the difference. As the cost of organic eggs continues to rise, keeping your own flock has become both a meaningful and economical choice, giving you complete confidence in what ends up on your table.

Fresh Eggs, Made Simple

A reliable supply of fresh eggs starts with a healthy, stress-free environment. Our coops are designed with proper layouts, ventilation, nesting areas, and easy access for daily care—making it easier to raise happy hens and enjoy clean, chemical-free eggs at any time of day. With certified organic eggs becoming increasingly expensive, a small investment in a well-built coop quickly pays for itself.

Less Waste, Smarter Living

Our coop designs support simple, efficient feeding routines, making it easy to supplement with kitchen scraps and greens. Chickens naturally turn leftovers into nutrient-rich eggs, reducing household waste while thriving on a diverse, scrap-friendly diet. Thoughtful access points and clean-out areas make managing feed and maintenance straightforward and mess-free.

By pairing thoughtful design with durable materials, our coops don’t just house chickens—they support a more sustainable, rewarding way of living.

Why Should You Raise Chickens?

Whether you’re just considering raising chickens or you’ve been enjoying fresh eggs for years, there’s far more to it than breakfast. Chickens are remarkable creatures whose natural behaviors positively contribute to their surroundings. When given the right environment, they help create a more sustainable, balanced way of living.

Fresh, Honest Food: Raising your own chickens gives you complete confidence in where your food comes from. You control their diet, their environment, and their care—resulting in eggs free from unnecessary chemicals, hormones, and additives.

Natural Pest Control: Chickens are excellent foragers. They instinctively hunt insects, larvae, and garden pests, helping to reduce unwanted bugs naturally—without the need for chemical sprays or treatments.

Soil Health & Composting Power: Chicken poop is one of the most effective organic fertilizers available. Rich in nutrients, it plays a key role in healthy compost and thriving gardens. Many people pay for bagged organic fertilizer—raising chickens gives you a steady supply at no cost.

Waste Reduction: Kitchen scraps don’t need to end up in the bin. Chickens happily convert leftovers and greens into eggs, reducing household waste while maintaining a nutrient-rich diet.

A More Sustainable Lifestyle: From food production to soil health and waste reduction, chickens naturally support a more sustainable way of living. They close the loop between your home, your garden, and your food—making everyday life more efficient and rewarding.

Your Chickens Will Love What You’ve Done to the Place

Making your chickens comfortable in their new home is priority number one. Every coop we build is designed with real-world use in mind—focused on comfort for your flock and ease of care for you.

Our coops feature solid tongue-and-groove pine flooring topped with durable linoleum. Not because it’s decorative—but because it’s practical. The linoleum prevents moisture from penetrating the wood and makes clean-outs quick and effortless.

Standard designs include operable windows with screens for proper ventilation, along with our thoughtfully integrated nesting boxes. These are positioned for both exterior and interior egg collection, mounted higher to reduce bending, and designed to minimize disturbance to the birds. Inside, an integrated “poop shelf” keeps waste manageable without sacrificing valuable interior space.

For colder months, our coops are equipped with double-bubble roof insulation, providing an R4 insulation value. Chickens are remarkably efficient at regulating their own body heat—trapping warmth beneath their wings and releasing it as needed—so additional heating is rarely required except in extreme cold.

Every detail is intentional, ensuring your chickens are comfortable, healthy, and happy year-round.

Modern or Rustic — You Choose the Look

Chicken coops were never meant to be ugly—at least not ours. We believe your coop should look just as good as the rest of your property.

We take exceptional care in finishing every exterior, offering a wide range of materials and styles including tongue-and-groove pine, cedar board and batten, steel, and custom siding options. To complete the look, you can choose from a broad palette of roof and trim colours, allowing your coop to blend seamlessly with existing buildings or stand out as a feature on its own.

Whether your style leans modern, rustic, or somewhere in between, we’ll dress the exterior to match exactly what you find most appealing.

Run, Chickens, Run: Chicken runs aren’t always required but in many settings, they’re one of the smartest upgrades you can make.

For Urban & Suburban Settings: In tighter spaces where free-ranging isn’t always possible, a secure run gives your chickens room to roam safely while keeping them contained and protected. Our runs are designed to be clean, quiet, and visually appealing making them ideal for backyards where safety, neighbors, and local bylaws matter.

For Rural & Country Properties: Open land is a dream for chickens, but it also comes with increased predator activity from both the ground and the sky. A secure run provides a protected retreat when you’re not around or overnight, reducing stress and improving flock safety.

Built for Peace of Mind: Our runs are constructed with heavy-duty hardwire mesh featuring openings smaller than ½ inch to keep predators out. A clear polycarbonate roof protects against aerial threats while allowing natural light to pour in helping chickens feel like they’re out in the open, without the constant fear of danger.

Whether you’re in the city or the country, a well-designed run creates a safer, calmer environment for your flock—and more peace of mind for you.

FAQs

Do you deliver?

Yes we do! Our Coopmobile delivers your coop directly to your property, whether you’re in the city or the countryside.

Urban & Suburban Deliveries

For backyard and urban settings, we simply require clear access so our trailer can safely back up to the placement area. Tight spaces, fences, and neighboring properties are common considerations—we’ll review access with you ahead of time to ensure a smooth delivery.

Rural & Country Deliveries

Open land often makes placement easier, but longer driveways, soft ground, or uneven terrain can come into play. Our team is experienced in rural deliveries and can work with you to plan safe access and final placement.

The delivery itself is fast and efficient—the Coopmobile was specifically designed to make unloading and positioning your coop quick and hassle-free.

When you order your coop, you can choose your roof and trim colour from a wide range of available options shown below. Simply select the colour that best complements your home, outbuildings, or landscape—and we’ll take care of the rest.

Smart-home convenience has officially made its way to the chicken coop. Our coops can be equipped with the ChickenGuard automatic coop door, offering reliable, hands-free security for your flock.

Coops, Crappers & Cabins is an authorized ChickenGuard dealer, and our pricing is comparable to online options—with one major advantage: we professionally install it for you.

The door can be programmed to open and close at set times, keeping your chickens secure when they need to be and safely tucked in at night. It’s perfect for stress-free vacations—or simply enjoying a few extra hours of sleep.

The system is battery operated, with an optional solar charging upgrade, meaning no hardwiring or external power source is required.

Nothing brings peace of mind quite like being able to check on your chickens anytime, day or night. Our security camera systems allow you to monitor both the interior and exterior of your coop remotely, so you always know what’s happening—even when you’re away.

For added protection, we offer solar-powered security lighting designed to deter predators and startle unwanted visitors after dark. Together, these features help keep your flock safe while giving you confidence that they’re protected around the clock.

Rope Roost: Our rope roost—often referred to as a hemp or manila rope roost—creates a more natural and comfortable perching surface for your chickens. Each roost is built around a solid cedar bar, carefully wrapped with durable manila rope.

Veterinarians often recommend rope-wrapped roosts because they can help in the prevention and treatment of bumblefoot, a common bacterial infection in chickens. The rope texture improves airflow beneath your chicken’s feet, reduces pressure points, and provides a gentler, more forgiving surface compared to smooth wooden bars.

The result is a healthier, more comfortable place for your flock to rest—day and night.

Every Coop Needs a Name: A coop isn’t truly complete until it has a name. Our custom nameplates let you personalize—and proudly display—your coop’s identity however you like. Go bold, go funny, go classic… or keep it simple with something like “The Country Clucker.” The choice is entirely yours.

And just to see who’s paying attention—if you ask your sales rep about nesting box names, they might be able to arrange something a little special for you.

Our team is here to help you design the perfect chicken coop. We’ll guide you through a simple three-step design process—starting with an initial discovery call to understand your needs, followed by a custom sketch, and, if you’d like, a visit to our farm to see a coop in person before you commit.

Let’s bring your dream coop to life—one step at a time.
